Master of Education Degree and Teaching Credential Program
The Department of Education Studies offers a joint Master of Education Degree/Teaching Credential Program. Graduates can apply to receive one of the following credentials
- Multiple Subject Credential – teaching Elementary School Students
- Single Subject Credential – teaching Middle or High School Students in the following content areas:
- English
- Mathematics
- Science – Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Geoscience
- World Languages - ASL, Filipino, French, Mandarin, Spanish and other languages upon request
- In addition, EDS offers a Bilingual Authorization program (BILA), and an Elementary Math Emphasis Certificate (EMEC)

Program Options
UC San Diego undergraduates who complete the Foundations or Math/Science EDS minor will be able to obtain a Master of Education and a Teaching Credential in one year of graduate study, upon admission into the graduate program. This means UCSD students can receive their Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree and Teaching Credential in 5 years of study total.
For students who cannot complete the coursework as an undergraduate, there are also options to complete an accelerated 13-month program (for Multiple Subject Credential candidates) or a 22-month program (for Single Subject Credential candidates).
