Minor in Education Studies

Undergraduate students from any major or college are eligible for the Minor in Education Studies. Students who are planning to apply to the UCSD M.Ed./Credential Program should take the courses that satisfy the educational foundations requirements and the minor requirements simultaneously. Ask a EDS adviser if you have questions! The minor consists of a minimum of 28 units and must include at least one course from category A (below) and at least one course from 2 of the remaining categories (B,C,D). Grades of C- or better are required for the minor, but if you plan to apply to the EDS credential program note that grades of B or better are required in the EDS courses.

Undergraduate Preparation for UCSD's Master of Education/Credential Programs

Students planning to apply to one of UCSD's Master of Education/Teacher credential programs can complete the Educational Foundations coursework during their undergraduate study. Students completing the Educational Foundations Course of Study automatically fulfill all requirements for the minor in Education Studies but are not guaranteed admission into the EDS graduate program. Students who want the minor to appear on their transcript will need to officially declare the EDS minor. A minimum 3.0 GPA for all Educational Foundations coursework is required for admission to the EDS M.Ed./Credential Program.

Students who are interested in pursuing a teaching credential at UCSD should choose their major according to the following eligibility requirements, and complete the Educational Foundations Course of Study, which fulfills all of the EDS minor requirements.

Students planning to pursue a teaching credential at UCSD must major in one of the following areas in order to meet the application eligibility requirements for UCSD's credential programs:

M.Ed./Multiple Subject Credential (Elementary)
Students applying to UCSD's M.Ed./Multiple Subject Credential Program must have a B.A. or B.S. with a major field of study in an area equivalent to any major offered at UCSD. (Some examples of majors NOT eligible: Business, Education, Liberal Studies, Marketing, and Recreation.)

M.Ed./Single Subject Credential (Secondary)
Students applying to UCSD's M.Ed./Single Subject Credential Program must have a B.A. or B.S. with a major field of study in the area corresponding to the credential subject:
